Project Title: Construction of Retaining Wall
Client: Private Client
Location: Goodwood Park, Trinidad.
Status: Completed
Year: November 2024 – December 2024
Project Description/ Scope of Works: Our client wanted to increase the usable space on the property, as the southern boundary was not usable due to a steep drop of more than 5.5 meters (18 feet) over a span of approximately 4.5 meters (15 feet). The retaining wall, which spans about 33.5 meters (110 feet) in length, features a 0.6 meter thick base with a 0.9 meter deep key at the toe. The stem of the wall is 4.5 meters high, with 2.5 meters of it measuring 0.5 meters thick and 2.0 meters at 0.3 meters thick. The design included a combination of 20mm, 16mm, and 12mm steel reinforcement, all encased in 30MPa concrete.
However, the project faced several site constraints, including limited working hours, which impacted the scheduling of tasks. Additionally, the difficult terrain made access, material delivery and machinery movement challenging, requiring careful planning and execution to overcome these obstacles. Despite these limitations, the construction was successfully carried out over a period of three (3) weeks to maximize the usable space on the property.
